Taylor Martinez as a two-way player?

Carl Pelini called Martinez, Scout.com’s top-rated dual-threat quarterback on the West Coast, the Cornhuskers’ best “all-around” recruit in 10 years, Casey Martinez said.

Bo Pelini spoke of the possibility of Taylor playing both ways, Casey Martinez said, with Taylor playing quarterback in certain packages if he were to start at safety. Of course, if Martinez were to start at quarterback, he would not play on defense.

Martinez was the quiet, diligent type. A quarterback with a “very strong and accurate arm.” And even better? “When all else breaks down, he can make a play with his feet. He’s so dang fast.”

He has been timed running the 40 in 4.47 seconds and has produced a vertical leap of 38 inches.

The rivalry has been criticized for its weakening in the past decade since the creation of the Big 12 Conference. It used to be OU and Nebraska competing for the Big Eight Title every year, but the Sooners struggled in the late 90s, and Nebraska has since struggled for a majority of the 2000s.

But former OU co-defensive coordinator Bo Pelini guided the Cornhuskers to a 9-4 record and a victory in the Gator Bowl in 2008 over Clemson, and the Huskers seem prime for a resurgence in the Big 12 North with a weakening Missouri and Colorado, as well as Kansas State, and Iowa State in rebuilding periods. Look for this to be a tough win for the Sooners next season.
