Tracking Buffalo Bills' 2012 Undrafted Free-Agent Signings

Erik FrenzJun 2, 2018

The 2012 NFL draft has finally come to an end, but the NFL dreams of those who went undrafted have not.

As teams look to find the most competent depth for their roster, they will scour the undrafted free agent market to find anyone who might be a fit.

Here we have a rundown of every undrafted free-agent signing the Buffalo Bills have made to date. They have several key areas where they should look to add depth, and have already got the ball rolling in that sense.

In the coming slides, we'll look at a scouting report for each player, his biggest competition for a roster spot, his chances of making the roster (on a scale of 1-10) and some overall thoughts. Let's have a look.

Undrafted free-agent list provided by NEPatriotsDraft.com.

Nick Sukay, S, Penn State

1 of 8

Scouting Report via Collin Lindsay of Great Blue North:

"

Smart, hard-working, instinctive safety; has good size and moves well with a knack for always being around the ball; had three picks in just 6 games last fall; will also deliver a pop, but has limited range; Durability is an issue though as he missed the entire 2008 season after undergoing foot surgery and then sat out the second half of last season with a torn pectoral muscle that also required surgery.

"

Biggest Competition: Da'Norris Searcy/Delano Howell/Ian Wild

Chances of Making the Roster: 3/10

Most of the major scouting websites had no information on Sukay. He was invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl but didn't turn any heads, or at least not any that felt he was worth a draft pick.

Ian Wild, S, Mercyhurst

2 of 8

Scouting Report: N/A

Biggest Competition: Da'Norris Searcy/Nick Sukay/Delano Howell

Chances of Making the Roster: 1/10

The image here isn't an error. Wild was a lacrosse player at Mercyhurst, and also played safety for the Lakers. His athletic ability could help him make the roster, but he'll be competing with other undrafted free agents—most of whom have more legitimate football experience—for the same spot.

Delano Howell, S, Stanford

3 of 8

Scouting Report via Wes Bunting of National Football Post:

"

An instinctive, try hard kid who can tackle. However is too stiff to play in space at the next level and make plays on the football.

"

Biggest Competition: Da'Norris Searcy/Nick Sukay/Ian Wild

Chances of Making the Roster: 4/10

Howell was a team captain at Stanford. He sure won't give up on his chances in the NFL without a try, but without the requisite ball skills or the ability to play in space, he could lose out to Searcy.

Shawn Powell, P, FSU

4 of 8

Scouting Report: N/A

Biggest Competition: Brian Moorman

Chances of Making the Roster: TBD

The Bills won't be carrying two punters, so unless Moorman unexpectedly retires or gets injured, Powell's likely to be nothing more than a practice-squad punter if that.

Chris Douglas, RB, Missouri State

5 of 8

Scouting Report from The Sports Xchange:

"

In 2010, Douglas became just the 10th MSU back to accumulate 1,000 rushing yards in a single season when he tallied 1,051 yards on 152 carries, scored 11 touchdowns and finished second in the nation in yards per carry (6.9).

"

Biggest Competition: Johnny White/Tashard Choice

Chances of Making the Roster: 3/10

Douglas ran just a 4.65-second 40-yard dash at his pro day. He's a small back with some girth to him, which should make him difficult to bring down. His abilities between the tackles should help him provide an element to the Bills backfield that they currently lack.

Aaron Corp, QB, Richmond

6 of 8

Scouting Report from Sideline Scouting:

"

Uses good footwork, does a good job in his drop steps and has solid overall mechanics... Good height; a natural thrower with no hitches in his motion, has a quick and fluid release... Below-average arm strength, struggles to drive the ball down field... Struggles with his ball placement, doesn't have the accuracy to throw guys open and will miss throws he shouldn't...

"

Biggest Competition: Tyler Thigpen

Chances of Making the Roster: 4/10

Corp was awarded the starting job at USC in 2009, but cracked his left fibula at fall camp and subsequently played just three games for the Trojans. Will the Bills carry three quarterbacks, or would they rather put Brad Smith in as their third-stringer? That will determine the fate of Corp's status on the roster.

Garrick Williams, OLB, Texas A&M

7 of 8

Scouting Report from Wes Bunting:

"

A hard working guy who puts himself around the action, but there just isn't that dynamic quality to his play in any area of the game that makes me feel he's worth a roster spot.

"

Biggest Competition: Scott McKillop

Chances of Making the Roster: 4/10

The Bills need more of their style of linebacker as they switch to the 4-3 front, and while Williams isn't exactly what they're looking for—he doesn't have the sideline-to-sideline speed you look for at linebacker—he has a motor that just doesn't quit. If that mentality translates to his roster battle, he could make like he did so often at A&M and come out on top.

Paul Madsen, OL, Colorado State

8 of 8

Scouting Report: N/A

Biggest Competition: Mark Asper/Michael Jasper

Chances of Making the Roster: 2/10

Madsen was voted 2011 All-Mountain West Conference Second Team as voted on by the eight head coaches in the conference and select media members. The Bills sorely need talented depth on the offensive line, but they already did a very good job of adding that talent through the draft; whether there's room for more on the roster remains to be seen.
