SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 122, Chad Bumphis, Mississippi State WR
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on August 30 at the start of the college football regular season.
No. 122: Chad Bumphis, No. 1, Wide Receiver, Mississippi State
2011 Stats: 25 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns, nine carries for 28 yards, 15 punt returns for 133 yards and one touchdown.
Strengths
Bumphis enters his senior season as one of the premier do-everything players in the SEC. He finished second on the team last year with 339 yards receiving, but really burst out on the scene in 2010 with 634 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He's quick off the ball and has the athleticism to turn any play into a home run.
Weaknesses
His size has prevented him from being a true No. 1 receiver, but that hasn't stopped him from becoming a threat in the SEC. He's a player who can be a weapon at the next level, but will have to work if he wants to be a star.
2012 Prediction
With Tyler Russell entrenched as the starter at quarterback, Bumphis won't have a revolving door of quarterbacks this season. Along with Arceto Clark and Joe Morrow, Bumphis will be one of the primary targets for the Bulldogs this season.
