2012 NFL Draft Grades: Tennessee Titans and Teams Who Didn't Address Key Needs

Steven CookJun 7, 2018

Every team enters the NFL draft with a few positions that they must address before the regular season, and there are a few teams in trouble for 2012 after refusing to meet those needs in this year's draft.

The draft doesn't always work out like teams expect it to, and often times a targeted player can come off the board just prior to a selection and ruin their expectations.

With a deep field of talent this season entering the NFL, there's always a chance to add some undrafted free agents in order to gain some depth. But it can't be ignored that these teams missed their chance to bolster a key part of their team that desperately needed improvement.

Let's take a look at the teams who will have some question marks heading into the regular season after their draft choices.

Tennessee Titans - Pass Rusher

Undoubtedly, the Titans' biggest need of the offseason was the addition of a formidable pass-rusher. It was a crunching blow when South Carolina stud Melvin Ingram was removed from the board just two picks before Tennessee's, as he would have fit the need perfectly as a defensive end.

Instead, the Titans opted to go with standout WR Kendall Wright. The Titans don't have receiver as a huge area of concern, but it's safe to say their core is less than average without Kenny Britt.

I like what they did with their first pick in Wright, but they had plenty of chances to add pass-rushing in the later rounds and chose not to. They made a questionable second-round pick of coverage LB Zach Brown and didn't go with a defensive end until the seventh round when they chose Rice's Scott Solomon.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this seventh rounder doesn't make much of an impact on Tennessee's pass rush this year.

Buffalo Bills - Wide Receiver

Many Bills fans expected their team to either trade up for Justin Blackmon or to grab Michael Floyd with their No. 10 overall pick with receiver being the weakest spot on their roster. They did neither and also did a terrible job of addressing their key need.

That was in reference to their third-round pick of T.J. Graham, receiver from N.C. State. Graham came out of nowhere on the Bills' draft board, as many experts had him going undrafted.

One potential reason they went with Graham was his blistering speed, as he boasts a 4.35 40-yard dash. But it cannot be ignored that there were much better options on the board than this sleeper. The Bills will still have a very weak receiving core in 2012.
