2012 NFL Draft Grades: Miami Dolphins and Teams Who Closed out Strong
Much of the general public decides to tune out of the NFL draft's final day because the best talent is off the board, but plenty of teams had success on Saturday in the final four rounds which will help catapult them toward success in 2012.
This year's draft class was a deep one, making Rounds 4 through 7 more interesting than in years past.
Let's take a look at a few of the teams that made smart moves on Saturday.
The Dolphins began their day with a popular pick, taking a local in Miami RB Lamar Miller. Miller's one of the most talented backs in this class and he was expected for some time to be a first-round pick.
They then traded down with their No. 145 pick in order to gain both the 155th and 227th picks, a good move to double up.
Josh Kaddu, linebacker from Oregon, will provide depth at a position that's getting even stronger in Miami.
They also improved their receiver position with two additions on Saturday.
The Steelers had six picks on Saturday, including four seventh-rounders. Pittsburgh's haul here makes it hard to believe many of these players were drafted in the final round.
They beefed up with their first pick of the day by choosing Alameda Ta'amu, nose tackle from Washington. Fifth-round selection RB Chris Rainey from Florida brings Pittsburgh some much-needed explosiveness in the backfield. Rainey could turn into one of the NFL's most dangerous playmakers.
David Paulson from Oregon has been a reliable tight end in one of the country's most potent offenses, so this was a home run that could end up working out well in an organized Steelers offense.
The Texans filled a big need along the offensive line with their fourth-round selection of Ben Jones from Georgia. Jones was one of the most experienced college football players in the draft and should have little to no problem adjusting to the NFL.
Keshawn Martin, receiver from Michigan State, was added to a receiving core that looks suddenly dangerous after the addition of Ohio State's DeVier Posey in the second round.
One of the Texans' biggest needs was addressed in the fifth round with the selection of kicker Randy Bullock from Texas A&M. Neil Rackers is gone and Bullock, arguably the nation's best kicker in 2011, will have some big shoes to fill.
