NFL Draft 2012: Bold Predictions for Andrew Luck and NFL Draft's Biggest Names

Chris TrapassoJun 5, 2018

How will Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson, the most marquee names in the 2012 NFL draft class, fare in their rookie seasons?

These are my bold predictions for the star prospects.

Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Luck will assimilate well to the pro game, despite the abundance of holes currently on the Colts' roster. His college buddy Coby Fleener will be a major help. Dwayne Allen is a talented pass-catching tight end as well, and the two will formulate a reliable duo for Luck to find short over the middle and down the seam.

With Fleener and Allen, T.Y. Hilton and the steady veteran Reggie Wayne, there's no reason Luck won't be able to throw for more than 3,500 yards next season.

Andy Dalton threw for nearly 3,400 last season and Cam Newton finished with a remarkable 4,051 yards through the air in 2011.

Luck's polished in all aspects of throwing the football and most importantly, shouldn't have a hard time deciphering defenses in front of him.

Prediction: 3,650 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, 12 interceptions

Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

Griffin III is a special talent, from the pocket and when he decides to scramble. The NFC East is a little overhyped, but by in large it's a tough division that features sound pass-rushers like Jason Babin, Trent Cole, the entire New York Giants line and DeMarcus Ware.

He has a decent wide receiving contingent and although it may not happen instantly, I see him and Pierre Garcon connecting on a lot of big plays over the next five to seven years.

In the long run, Griffin III will morph into one of the game's elite signal-callers, but I think it'll take longer than people think for him to blossom into that guy.

Prediction: 3,300 passing yards, 24 total touchdowns, 14 interceptions

Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Richardson's another guy that will be special in the foreseeable future for the Browns. While he's the best running back prospect to enter the NFL since Adrian Peterson, I don't see him having the instant impact that Peterson did.

He's playing in the AFC North, a division with three of the best defensive fronts in the AFC. The Steelers and Ravens are always stingy against the run and the Bengals were outstanding last season.

The additions of Devon Still and Brandon Thompson will only bring more ferocious nature to Cincinnati's front.

Richardson will likely be the focal point of the offense, so he will get his fair share of carries.

I'm not expecting a disappointing rookie campaign, but I don't envision one that will take the NFL by storm.

Prediction: 1,000 rushing yards, 300 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns
