Dallas Mavericks: Rodrigue Beaubois' DNP-CD Could Signal End for Guard with Mavs

Ethan GrantJun 7, 2018

As the Dallas Mavericks left the court following their 99-98 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the NBA playoffs first round, Rodrigue Beaubois still had his warm-ups on, having never taken them off at any point in the evening.

In a season that has seen Roddy B be a major contributor in wins at Utah and Phoenix, and also a non-factor in losses to the the Thunder and L.A. Lakers, he rejoined his molded seat on the bench and didn't see any action in the loss in Game 1.

To make matters worse, Delonte West was questionable with a stomach bug prior to the game, and Roddy could have at least taken 10 minutes or so of West's time chasing around Russell Westbrook or even James Harden.

It was the case when he was a rookie, and it is the case now: Rick Carlisle doesn't trust the 24 year old from the French Guadeloupe.

Earlier this season during a post-game interview, Beaubois was subject to rookie behavior after a game against the East's best, the Chicago Bulls. Logging 38 minutes, injuring his ring finger and posting a very solid 16 points and and five assists, Roddy still had to carry Brendan Haywood's bag to the bus.

It's almost as if the sentiments of the coach are trickling down and touching the players. Haywood, who only logged 14 minutes that night, seems to forget that it's Beaubois' third year in the league–not his first.

That's one of the most alarming plays of the season for Roddy, and he wasn't even on the court for it.

If they don't trust him in the locker room, then they won't trust him on the court. And in the twilight years of Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry's careers, it's all about being able to play in the postseason in pursuit of a title.

If the trend of Beaubois' best playoff game coming in Game 6 of a first round series with the San Antonio Spurs two postseason's ago continues, then come this summer, when the team is rumored to actively be courting Deron Williams, Beaubois could be on his way out.

The coach must trust the player for the player to have any success. When Roddy has had his chance this year, he's shown flashes of being an even more explosive version of Tony Parker, even a better shooter than his countryman.

But he can't contribute if he's not on the court. Have we seen the last of Roddy B in a Mavericks uniform? Tune in tonight to find out.
