Washington Redskins Draft Grades: Grading the 'Skins' 7th-Round Performance
The Washington Redskins entered the draft's final round with an extra pick, courtesy of a trade with the Buffalo Bills. They used their two selections to take first SMU defensive back Richard Crawford.
Crawford is the second player from SMU chosen by the Redskins, along with third-round pick guard Josh LeRibeus. He is a 5'11", 189-pound cornerback, who showed a knack for getting his hands on the ball in 2011.
His selection continued the trend of the Redskins answering positions of need with unheralded prospects who were not widely linked to the team before the draft. Crawford was then joined by fellow defensive back Jordan Bernstine from Iowa.
The 5'10", 210-pounder has seen time at corner, but projects well to safety in the pros. He is certainly a big hitter and if he makes the team, could see some time in the slot.
With these two picks, it seems that the Redskins are just content to bring in numbers in the secondary, let players compete and see who sticks. They certainly were linked with more high-profile corners prior to the draft.
Grade for Round 7: C
The Redskins needed to add players in the secondary. However, as with most of their picks in this draft, the Redskins opted for unheralded players, while leaving more highly-touted names still on the board.
