Cleveland Browns Draft Grades: Grading the Browns' 6th-Round Performance

James DudkoJun 7, 2018

The Cleveland Browns used their two sixth-round picks to draft first Texas linebacker Emmanuel Acho and then Boise State defensive tackle Billy Winn. These were two outstanding late-round picks by the Browns.

Acho is a natural fit as a 4-3 outside linebacker and joins Nevada's James-Michael Johnson as two youngsters who can come in an push for immediate playing time. Acho will improve the speed and athleticism of the Browns' linebacking corps.

The 6'1" 238-pounder is a stout and instinctive box defender. Acho can help improve the Browns' porous run defense. He will also help boost the coverage units on special teams.

Winn joins third-rounder John Hughes to greatly improve depth at the defensive tackle position. The interior of the defensive line is one of the main strengths of this Browns team.

Yet options are limited behind talented starters Ahtyba Rubin and Phil Taylor. Winn gives Dick Jauron an active complement to Hughes, who is a more stay-at-home run-plugger.

Winn has good size at 6'4" and 294 pounds and, like Harris, is solid in every area. However, he lacks elite athleticism and playmaking skills. Yet Winn can still be productive as a two-gap tackle in Jauron's system.

Round 6 Grade: A

The Browns may have caused a mild stir by opting not to select a big-play wideout with their second- or third-round picks. However, grabbing two solid scheme fits like Acho and Winn to add to a burgeoning defense should give their fans renewed cause for optimism.

The defense is the strength of this team, and the Browns just made the unit even better.
