Day 3 NFL Draft Targets for the AFC South

Nate DunlevyJun 7, 2018

The Texans and Colts have plenty of Day 3 picks, and the Jags and Titans will be looking to maximize what they have left.

Day 3 of the draft is all about depth. Only seven players picked in the final four rounds became starters in 2011. Only 20 players taken on Day 3 from the 2010 draft are currently starting in the NFL.

Teams can hope to find a diamond in the rough, and there's always a chance to land a star, but the odds are very very long. Since 2006, fewer than 20 players taken in the final four rounds have gone on to play in Pro Bowls.

Many of the players selected today will not make the Week 1 roster. Teams are looking for projects, special teams players and depth. It's important to remember that when the draft ends, teams will be looking for undrafted free agents. These players can be just as important as sixth and seventh rounds.

Here are some names to watch as the draft gets underway this afternoon:

Orson Charles TE, Georgia (Texans)

Alfonzo Dennard CB, Nebraska (all four teams)

George Iloka S, Boise State (all four teams)

James Brown OT, Troy (all four teams)

Alameda Ta'amu DT, Washington (Colts)

Greg Zuerlein K, Missouri Western (Texans)

OT Bobby Massie, Mississippi (all four teams)

TE Ladarius Green (Texans)
