2012 NFL Top 100: Odds and Predictions for No. 1

Alex KayJun 3, 2018

The NFL Top 100, as determined by player voting, is going to start being revealed tonight at 8 p.m. ET on the NFL Network, with players 100 through 91 being showcased.

According to Michael Hiestand of USA Today, about 25 percent of active players turned in a ballot to determine who exactly ranks where.

What we do know is that Chris Johnson finished at No. 100, but what everyone wants to know is who came in at No. 1.

Let’s take a look at some of the candidates and their odds of being given the top honor.

Ray Lewis: 20/1

Lewis is the leader of one of the most fearsome defenses year in and year out. The 2011 season didn’t change a thing, and the team was nearly in the Super Bowl on the strength of the 36-year-old linebacker’s play.

Skill-wise, Lewis is not the best player in the league, but he’s one of the most respected men in the game and players will vote him high on this list for that reason.

Tom Brady: 10/1

After getting back to the Super Bowl in 2012, Brady put his name back on the map. If he actually had led his team to victory, he’d easily take the top spot on the list.

He’s still got a chance to take the honor, but the chances are slim considering his numbers were down and he lost another championship.

Darrelle Revis: 5/1

The Jets had a down year, but Darrelle still did his job as a shutdown corner who makes a habit out of holding receivers captive on Revis Island.

Anyone who had to match up against him likely put him as the No. 1 player on their list, considering how good of a job he does at taking his man out of a game.

I just don’t believe a defender will win this award because it’s more of a popularity contest and cornerbacks don’t often win those.

When you win the NFL MVP award, you automatically garner instant consideration for the highest spot in any list ranking the top players in the league.

The Green Bay Packers QB put up a ridiculous 4,643 yards, threw 45 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions and completed 68.3 percent of his passes.

Those gaudy numbers coupled with a 15-1 regular season make him the top choice for the No. 1 player in the NFL Top 100.
