2012 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys and the Biggest Winners of Day 1
Ready for the best and boldest move in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft?
The Dallas Cowboys traded up to snag star cornerback Morris Claiborne with the No. 6 overall selection.
Not a typical move from Jerry Jones, but in this case, he made an exquisite decision.
The boys from Big D weren't the only ones that made out extremely well.
Let's check out all of the biggest winners of Round 1.
Dallas Cowboys
As I previously alluded to, this was the best trade in the first round. Claiborne adds another sound presence to the Cowboys' secondary and will instantly formulate a lockdown tandem with free agent acquisition Brandon Carr. Rob Ryan was in dire need of a quality cornerback and now he has two.
Playing in a division with Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and now Robert Griffin III, Claiborne represents a fantastic value.
Talk about value. Did the Steelers get that with David DeCastro at No. 24 overall, or what? This kid is the best guard prospect to enter the NFL since Steve Hutchinson in 2001 and, to many, was a top-15 talent.
He's big, physical, deceptively agile and plays the game with a high football intelligence.
Protecting Ben Roethlisberger is of the utmost importance and DeCastro will certainly benefit the entire Steelers offensive line.
A fantastic pick by a perennial playoff team.
Kendall Wright to the Tennessee Titans was the best overlooked pick of the first round.
While many believed the Titans would try to address their void at cornerback created by the departed Cortland Finnegan, they instead added an explosive piece to their offense.
With Jake Locker close to taking the reins on offense, he has a go-to receiver he can go to for the next decade.
Wright's abilities to stretch the field and rack up yards after the catch will make him a dynamite player in the Titans offense.
Add in a healthy Kenny Britt, and opposing defenses will have to stay on their toes.
