Mayweather vs Cotto: Money Can't Win Without Fight Against Manny Pacquiao

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

Even if Floyd "Money" Mayweather defeats Miguel Cotto in their title fight, the undefeated boxer still won't be a winner—at least in the eyes of many.

That is, until he finally fights Manny Pacquiao.

Unfortunately for both fighters, nothing counts until the two finally meet in a ring, no matter how much money and glory they earn in the meantime.

People just don't care. For every fight they enter, it comes with everyone else asking when will Mayweather and Pacquiao fight?

As it will be until the two fight.

Mayweather has had a long, storied career, and even if he does get to 43-0 after this fight with Cotto, the fact of the matter is that nobody will think about those other 43 wins unless he defeats Pacquiao—or at least takes him on.

The two, along with the media, have built such a hype for this match, that it must happen. If it doesn't, neither man will go down in having the career they should have because the two best never met.

Everything between now and then doesn't count. It just won't matter, and nobody really cares about anything but these two finally fighting.

The biggest issue in the entire situation continues to be Money's confidence in that he doesn't need to fight Pac-Man.

In a recent interview with Lem Satterfield of Yahoo Sports' The Ring, Mayweather spoke about his relationship with Pacquiao, and where his career stands at this point.

"

"I'm happy with how my career has gone. I have nothing else to prove in this sport to nobody. Do I want the Manny Pacquiao fight before my career is over? Absolutely. But if it don't happen, it don't happen. Right now, I'm going through a lawsuit of defamation of character lawsuit with Manny Pacquiao.

"Trash talking. Actually, I've never met him. I called him to make the fight...You can tell somebody is in his ear. Because he already knows. Like I said before, my offer is what it is. And my offer, it won't change.

"I'm not budging. $40 million is what you are getting. Either you take it or you leave it. Like I've said before, Manny Pacquiao needs Floyd Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather don't need Manny Pacquiao."

"

Perhaps Mayweather will finally fold after this fight with Cotto, as you can be sure that it will be all the talk following this May 5th bout.
