NFL Draft Rumors: Rams Wise to Consider Auctioning off First Pick in 2nd Round
The St. Louis Rams dropped down the board twice in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft before making their first selection.
They finished the season with the second worst record in the league, but made their first pick near the middle of the round and acquired a third Round 2 pick in doing so.
The Rams now hold three picks in the first 13 selections today, including the first pick of the round.
A number of projected first round picks slid down the board last night and are still available for the picking, including Courtney Upshaw, Jonathan Martin, Cordy Glenn and Stephen Hill.
Eventually the Rams need to start making picks but, as Tim Kavanagh of ESPN hypothesizes, they'd be wise to put No. 33 on the block and get all they can for it.
Like last night, teams are going to start moving around immediately and the Rams can capitalize on that better than anyone else.
They don't have to move far, and they shouldn't, but it wouldn't hurt them at all to land more picks this year or next year if possible.
This team has so many holes to fill and so far to go before they can legitimately compete that they need all the help they can get.
New coach Jeff Fisher and GM Les Snead are not fools, they've already milked the No. 2 pick for all it was worth and then some, and they can land a bit more value by moving down just once more.
Wide receiver, offensive tackle and running back—all needs for the Rams—are deep positions through this round.
The best move for the first team on the clock is to avoid that clock altogether and let another team make the pick.
