2012 NFL Draft Predictions: Where Big Names Will End Up

Jun 3, 2018

The first round of the 2012 NFL draft is finally over, but there are still some big names who have slipped through the cracks and will be taken in the second round instead. A few of these prospects are still waiting in the green room to hear their names called.

There’s no exact science to explain why these prospects are still available, but there’s also no discrediting their elite talent. These are prospects who have first-round talent that are going to have a massive impact during their rookie campaigns.

Fortunately for each of these big-name prospects who are still available, there are teams in dire need of their services sooner rather than later.

Let’s take a look at where some of the big names will end up.

LaMichael James, RB, Oregon

James is an explosive running back that has what it takes to succeed in the NFL. He’s a carbon-copy of Darren Sproles and his particular set of skills will do wonders for one lucky franchise.

There was a bit of a run on the position at the end of the first that will likely continue into the second round. This means James will likely be taken in the second round.

Prediction: James winds up with the Bengals in Cincinnati at 53. A few more backs will be taken before James, pushing the Bengals’ hand at an area of need. James is a perfect fit. He’ll provide exactly what the Bengals are looking for in a West Coast offense running back.

Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia

Glenn is an enormous prospect who is still awaiting his chance in the green room. He can start at either guard or tackle right away in the NFL. He’s a supreme athlete for a man his size who will provide a great boost to whatever offensive line he may join.

Prediction: Glenn lands with the St. Louis Rams with the first pick of the second round at No. 33. He’s too good of a talent for the Rams to pass on at this point and it helps that they have multiple picks in the round. Glenn will provide some much needed protection for quarterback Sam Bradford.

Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

Upshaw is also currently sitting in the back room of Radio City Music Hall waiting for a home in the NFL. He won’t have to wait long because of his unique skill set.

Upshaw is an extremely talented pass-rusher that will provide an instant boost to one lucky team. He has the combination of strength and speed that flusters offensive linemen on his way to opposing quarterbacks.

Prediction: Upshaw will be selected at No. 42 by the Miami Dolphins. After reaching for a player in the first Miami has to make a sound selection in the second. Upshaw is that type of selection. The Dolphins needed a pass-rushing presence to complement Cameron Wake and Upshaw fits the bill nicely.

Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Hill joins the others in the green room thanks to a spectacular scouting combine performance. He’s a rare talent that reminds many of Detroit’s Calvin Johnson.

It was widely thought he’d be a first-round selection after his performance, but his lack of production at the collegiate level may have scared some teams off.

Prediction: Hill won’t get past the Cleveland Browns at No. 37. Cleveland needs a new number one receiver to go with their new franchise quarterback Brandon Weeden. Hill can stretch the field in a big way and is the perfect complement to Greg Little.

Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

Fleener is the best tight end in the draft without question. He’s a big target for quarterbacks, has great hands and can run any kind of route. He struggles a bit in run-blocking but that’s something that can always be fixed.

Fleener is also awaiting his shot in the green room. His wait will end quickly.

Prediction: There’s no chance Fleener makes it past the Indianapolis Colts at No. 34. Reuniting quarterback Andrew Luck with his favorite collegiate receiver is a no-brainer. The Luck to Fleener connection will take its dominance from college to the NFL. Expect to hear it for a long time.
