NFL Draft 2012: GM Bruce Allen Confirms Redskins Will Select Robert Griffin III
Robert Griffin III will be the second pick in the 2012 draft.
Washington Redskins GM Bruce Allen eliminated any possible shred of suspense surrounding this selection when he appeared on the NFL Network’s 2012 NFL Draft Kickoff Show. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reported on the announcement.
The only reason this qualifies as news is because the team came right out and said it. This has been a forgone conclusion since the Redskins traded three first-round picks and a second-round pick to the Rams to jump from No. 6 to No. 2 in this year's draft.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The 'Skins didn't trade the farm to draft anyone other than Andrew Luck or RGIII. And we've always unofficially known that the Colts were going to take Luck.
Allen spent time singing the praises of both of these special signal callers while on the Kickoff Show. But he also made certain to let it be known that Griffin is not a consolation prize to Luck.
Florio was also kind enough to transcribe the following quote. Allen:
"We think that Robert fits our offense to a tee. We’re excited about being able to complement him with what we’ve already been able to do with some of his special talents. Obviously his charisma is going to be embraced by the Redskins Nation.
"
Redskins fans should be excited. Their team gave up a king's ransom, but they can worry about the lack of picks later. Right now, it is all about welcoming one of the most exciting quarterback prospects in draft history.
There is little doubt that the Redskins had a desperate need for a quarterback. This team has been scrambling to piece together a legitimate quarterback since the Donovan McNabb era went so horribly askew.
Last season, duties under center were shared by Rex Grossman and John Beck, and they weren't shared particularly well.
Grossman had a QB rating of 72.4 and Beck's was astonishingly close at 72.1. Both Grossman and Beck remain on the roster, and will likely be battling for depth chart positioning once again. However, it will be for the backup role this time around.
It is safe to assume that RGIII will be taking the first snap of the Redskins' season.
