2012 NFL Draft Projections: 2nd-Round Prospects Who Will Surprise in Pros
We all know about the first-round prospects in the 2012 NFL draft, but what about the second-rounders?
Being a second-round pick doesn't necessarily mean you won't be a star. There have been plenty of steals much later in the draft throughout the years. Sometimes, a team's picks in the later rounds actually save them.
Here's a look at some potential second-round picks who I see surprising in the NFL.
3. Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State
The big thing with Brandon Weeden is that he's already 28 years old. But he's very accurate from the pocket, and, as a second-round pick by the New York Yankees in 2002, he's very mobile and has good size. He also showed more poise and awareness in the pocket in his final season at Oklahoma State.
2. Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers
Mohamed Sanu may be the most underrated receiver of the draft. He was a potential first-round pick until he ran a relatively slow 40-yard dash at the combine. I think draft evaluators are putting way too much stock in his combine performance. Anyone who watched Sanu at Rutgers knows he has the potential to put a team on his back. He's a strong, dependable receiver with great hands who isn't afraid to go over the middle of the field and will break his fair share of tackles. Beyond that, he has solid leaping ability and great size. He will be a steal on draft day for whoever grabs him.
1. Lamar Miller, RB, Miami (FL)
I'm a bit surprised Lamar Miller has dropped so far. He was absolutely electric at Miami, and he has the speed, agility, patience, balance and big-play ability to be a Pro Bowl back down the line. Let me put it this way: If a team like the New York Jets drafted him in the first round, it shouldn't be considered a bad pick.
