Kellen Moore: Teams That Should Take Chance on Underrated Boise State QB
Kellen Moore won more games than any other quarterback in Division I history during his time leading the Boise State Broncos, but he's the perfect example of college success not always translating into a high draft pick. Moore is widely considered a late-round prospect.
Let's take a look at three teams that should target Moore in the last few rounds. He would be able to serve as a backup for a couple seasons before potentially earning a chance to prove that size shouldn't always be a deciding factor for QBs.
Joe Flacco made steady progress in each of his first three seasons before taking a huge step back last year. The Ravens aren't going let one down season change their outlook on him, but they should consider drafting a new backup.
The Ravens are a contender in the AFC, but they won't be able to get over the hump unless their quarterback play improves. Torrey Smith's emergence gives Flacco enough weapons to put up big numbers, so there's no room for excuses.
Adding Moore to the mix would put pressure on Flacco to live up to expectations next season to help out the team's defense. That's something Tyrod Taylor can't do.
Buffalo gave a contract extension to Ryan Fitzpatrick, and his play proceeded to drop off dramatically. That's mostly because the Bills got away from the game plan that made them successful early in the season, but the pressure surely played a minor role as well.
The Bills have done a nice job of filling holes this season. Most notably, they added Mario Williams to fix a pass rush that has been dreadful for nearly a decade. But if they are finally going to earn a playoff berth, solid quarterbacking will be crucial.
Since they Bills have a talented young core, they can afford to give Fitzpatrick a chance to get back on track next season without the postseason window closing. Moore will be waiting in the wings just in case.
Matt Flynn bolted for the Seattle Seahawks to become their starter following a strong finish to last season while filling in for Aaron Rodgers. That leaves an opening behind the league's best quarterback, and Moore would fill it perfectly.
The Packers' backup actually has the potential to play quite a bit near the end of the season, just like Flynn did. That would give Moore the opportunity to get some valuable playing time to gain experience in low-pressure situations.
He illustrated in college that he can make plays, so it just comes down to somebody giving him a chance to showcase his ability. There probably isn't a better place than Green Bay for that.
