WWE's Best Match of the Week: Kofi Kingston vs. Chris Jericho on April 23rd Raw

Drake OzJun 3, 2018

I’m a huge Kofi Kingston fan—have been since day one.

There are plenty of wrestling fans that are right there with me, who love watching Kingston because of his fast-paced style and his incredible athleticism. On the flipside, though, there are just as many fans who aren’t sold on Kingston.

To that latter group, I challenge you to go back and watch what Kofi has done over the last two episodes of Monday Night Raw and then let me know if you still feel the same way.

He has become the go-to baby face whenever a top heel needs to have a good match, but also get the win.

Kingston did it on last week’s Raw when he faced Daniel Bryan in a really good bout, and put Bryan over strongly as we head to Extreme Rules.

He did it again on this week’s Raw with one of the better TV matches in recent memory against Chris Jericho

While I really enjoyed the six-man tag team main event on Smackdown, I had to go with Kingston/Jericho as my “Match of the Week.” The Ghanaian deserves credit for the incredible effort that he gives week in and week out, even though he isn’t exactly moving up and down the card.

I don’t think that any fan under the age of 12 actually thought that Kingston had a chance in hell to beat Jericho on Monday, but the mark of a good baby face is to make people believe that you can win no matter whom you’re facing.

That’s exactly what Kingston did.

He and Jericho stole the show with a match that, much to my surprise, was pretty evenly balanced. Not so much to my surprise, the match also highlighted Kofi’s ridiculous athleticism and his unbelievable chemistry with Jericho.

If you ever pay attention to house show results, you know that Jericho and Kingston have faced off at a number of these events in recent months. As you might expect, they’ve torn the house down at most of them.

Their chemistry shined through on Monday’s Raw with a fantastic TV bout that topped even last week’s Henry/Punk match for the WWE championship.

With such a long line of good matches, you would think that this awesome showing for Kingston would catapult him up the card, but I highly doubt that’s the case.

Keep doing what you do, though, Kofi. Someone’s bound to notice some day.
