Events You Can't Miss
No. 1 Overall Pick
There isn't much suspense this season when it comes to the No. 1 overall pick as the Indianapolis Colts have already said that they will select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck as expected, but it is still a moment that shouldn't be missed. Football fans always remember who was taken first in a specific draft and whether they succeed or fail, so the Colts selecting Luck will be a piece of history.
The draft is a spectacle in and of itself, and the first pick marks a large celebration to kick things off. Luck could very well be a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time if he lives up to the hype, and you'll want to be able to say that you saw him get drafted.
Trades
You can't predict them, but there are bound to be at least a couple trades during tonight's first round. There won't be any surprises when it comes to the first pick, but trades always seem to catch fans off guard.
Most of the time it involves a team trading up from out of nowhere to select a player that nobody knew they had interest in. The unpredictability of it all is what makes the draft great.
Last season, the Atlanta Falcons traded up from No. 27 to No. 6 in order to select wide receiver Julio Jones, so pretty much any team can end up picking anywhere. All of us have read plenty of mock drafts and done some of our own, but an unexpected trade can pretty much throw all of that out the window.
Last Guy in the Green Room
This has become somewhat of a phenomenon in recent years as top players are invited to New York so that they can go on stage when their name is called. While this is a nice gesture, there is always at least one player who is left behind for a long period of time after his peers are taken.
Aaron Rodgers and Brady Quinn are two of the more famous ones as they were continually shown agonizing in the back.
It may be tough on the players, but it makes for compelling viewing and it causes fans to root for that player to be taken. Sometimes it works out for the best as in Rodgers' case, and other times it doesn't as in Quinn's case, but it's simply another wrinkle that makes the draft so fun to watch.
