Capitals vs. Bruins Video: Watch Joel Ward Stun Boston with Game-Winning OT Goal

Jesse ReedMay 31, 2018

The Washington Capitals have just knocked off the mighty Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2012 NHL playoffs, and we have the YouTube video to prove it.

They did so in dramatic fashion, too, winning it 2-1 at the 2:57 mark in overtime in Game 7 on the Bruins' home turf. Joel Ward hit the winning shot for the Capitals on a fast break, and he was assisted on the play by Mike Knuble.

The series was tight the whole way through, and Game 7 was no different.

At the end of regulation, the score was 1-1. The two teams beat up on one another, and between the two of them there were 59 hits in the game—equaling the amount of shots taken.

Both goalies should be commended. Tim Thomas stopped 92.6 percent of the 27 shots on his goal, while Braden Holtby continued his stellar goalkeeping, stopping 96.9 percent of the 32 shots on his goal.

Dennis Seidenberg had a huge game for the Bruins in a losing cause.

He was everywhere on the ice—both on offense and on defense—and his block of Alex Ovechkin's seemingly sure goal on a power play is what sent the game into overtime in the first place.

The Bruins couldn't convert on their power plays once again, going 0-3 in the game. For the series, they couldn't buy a power-play goal, going 3-for-21 in that category.

Again, it points to Holtby's strong play. He was the MVP for the Capitals, and if they hope to go any further in the Stanley Cup playoffs he'll need to continue his hot play guarding the net.

Playoff hockey is glorious, and this game embodied that fact. It doesn't get any better than an overtime win in Game 7, and the Capitals will hope to ride this high on to greater glory in the next round.
