Is Jacob Fatu vs. Roman Reigns Happening Too Soon?

From Age of Randy Orton to Age of Comedy

Daris BrownJan 26, 2009

I know. I know. I've been commenting recently how I'm tired of how everyone riding the same wave of articles until the topics have been shoved down our throats (i.e. Christian Returns and, now, Randy Orton).

But I just got done watching Raw, and I couldn't help but commenting.

Oh, how far the WWE has fallen in just seven days.

Last week, we were all on the edge of our couches with our jaws on the floor as we watched the Legend Killer punt Vinnie Mac into Row F. It was the most captivating five minutes of wrestling in the past five years. Maybe longer.

Orton ended the week like he started it, with a bang, as he won the coveted Royal Rumble. And that's when the Age of Orton became the Age of Comedy.

Instead of continuing to build off the fitting title, "the Legend Killer," we find out that Randy Orton has a disease? Are ya serious?

They claim he has Intermittent Explosive Disorder, which is brilliant or the dumbest excuse on the planet. The jury's still out.

IED is said to be associated with mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse and eating disorders, and narcissistic, paranoid, and antisocial personality disorders. Okay, they did good research as it seems to fit. It's a stretch...but then again, this is wrestling.

But that's not the issue, my beef was the close of Raw. Last week, we saw the most dramatic ending in recent memory. This week is down right laughable.

Orton, along with Legacy, were seconds away from giving Stephanie the same treatment that Randy gave to Vince last wee when we hear "Here Comes the Money."

And like Moses, the onlooking superstars part like the Red Sea as Shane-O Mac makes his way to the ring.

After a brief stare down, Shane unleashes his furry on Orton, delivering a series of punches. Legacy attempt to pull Shane off only to catch 50 punches to their jaws for their trouble.

The beat down continued as Shane proceeded to whoop all three members of Legacy.

Are ya serious? I don't care how mad Shane is, are we really supposed to believe that he can walk in and destroy all three members of Legacy empty handed? No chair, no chain, no nothing?

I know the idea of a heel is to look like a coward, but it makes him look pathetic when the baddest heel in the business gets beat up by a 35-year-old daddy's boy.

It's one step forward and two steps back. Why have us on the edge of our seats one week and rolling on the floor laughing the next?

I'm afraid to say it but as quickly as the Age of Orton has arrived, it was replaced with the Age of Comedy.
