Mayweather vs. Cotto: Reasons Bout Will Be Well Worth Your Money

Gabe ZaldivarApr 25, 2012

Miguel Cotto is the latest boxer to be given absolutely no shot to unseat Floyd Mayweather from his perch of perfection, but there are plenty of reasons to buy into a bout that will be engaging from start to finish.

You can almost sense Money May taking special care of this particular bout. As he gets closer to the true end of his career, each boxing match is potential for immense disaster.

Mayweather has been careful to be respectful of his May 5th opponent, and is training hard to make sure his record remains without blemish.

The Pay Per View cost remains the last leap of faith that boxing fans must take, and it's one I am confident will be well worth it.

The very fact that Mayweather is taking on Cotto means he is ready to take a pummeling, and is eager to put his nearly impeccable defense to the test.

Some opponents can get rather gun shy around Money May, but that will not be Cotto. His very nature is to instigate action and get after it.

Forget about seeing a few rounds of measuring and plodding, because the initial bell will feature an engaging opening salvo from the underdog boxer.

Mayweather said as much about his carefully selected boxing opponent to ESPN

"

Cotto is always dangerous in the ring. He is relentless and has already proven his heart and will to win. He is definitely one of the top champions in boxing today. Miguel Cotto, without a doubt, is a great matchup for me.

"

The likelihood that Mayweather ever fights Pacquiao continues to dwindle, making bouts against boxers like Cotto that much more important.

Money is banking on a great fight that will dazzle the eye, but still rests with the undefeated boxer in the end.

I still have the fight going to Mayweather, but it will last well into the later rounds, and we will all get our money's worth.

Cotto is killing himself in training and will come with the same fire we have come to expect. I won't go so far as to predict an upset, but I guarantee that we will have our interests piqued.

Mayweather picked the perfect opponent that will challenge him while still falling just short where it matters.

Defense and speed still rest in Mayweather's corner, making a Cotto win highly doubtful. But it will be so much fun seeing him try though.
