NFL Draft Rumors: 4 Possible Trades That Will Shake Up Round 1

Justin JanssenJun 7, 2018

Ahh, the NFL draft is almost upon us. It's about time. Franchises are built and collapsed through the NFL draft, and picking elite players is a crucial to maintaining success in this league.

Last year, the Atlanta Falcons stunned most fans when they traded up 21 spots in the draft to acquire wide receiver Julio Jones.

Who will make the next big splash? Read on.

Minnesota Trading the No. 3 Overall Pick

1 of 4

The Minnesota Vikings need help in a lot of areas. One draft pick isn't going to save their franchise and with Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck off the board, the Vikings are stuck with the No. 3 overall pick.

They're not going to take a quarterback. The team already took Christian Ponder in last year's first round. Drafting Matt Kalil or Morris Claiborne still leaves many holes on the team. Trading down allows the Vikings to upgrade in multiple areas.

The most likely trade partner is the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins still need a quarterback and are close enough in the draft order to acquire the pick. Interest in the pick is starting to heat up, according to Vikings GM Rick Spielman.

Seattle Seahakws Trading Down

2 of 4

The Seattle Seahawks have two major needs right now: wide receiver and the front seven.

The wide receiver corps in this year's draft is one of the deepest fields ever. With elite wide receivers such as Alshon Jeffery, or other studs namely Michael Floyd or Kendall Wright, production can be found in the later rounds of the draft.

Seattle's doesn't need to hold on to the No. 12 overall pick because they can grab elite talent at the wide receiver position late in this draft. Seattle should trade this for future draft picks.

Buffalo Bills Trading Up

3 of 4

If the Bills are committed to Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starting quarterback, they're going to need to start surrounding him with weapons. Running back Fred Jackson played well before being lost for the season due to an injury.

The Bills need a receiver opposite Stevie Johnson and might trade up to acquire former Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon. The Rams at No. 6 are going to have a slew of first-round picks because of their prior trade and trading this pick would give them even more opportunities to rebuild the franchise.

Tampa Bay Trading Down

If the Minnesota Vikings end up holding onto the No. 3 overall pick, then teams will start asking the Buccaneers for the fifth overall pick.

I believe Cleveland will take Trent Richardson at the four spot, leaving the primary team needs back onto the defensive side of the ball. Solid players will be available in the middle of the first round, such as Mark Barron or Stephon Gillmore.
