College Football Or College Politics
Who is the true number one? At the end of every college football season we ask ourselves. We do this because the BCS system does not work.
The BCS was designed to get the best two teams together and have them play for the right to be the best. But every year, we always have teams left out of that game that should be playing, and teams playing that should not be.
The BCS did take the voters out of the picture a little bit, which was a good thing. But I say we get rid of the BSC system as a whole. There is only one way to do this: the BCS conference commissioners need to stay out of it.
The President of the United States of America is not in favor of the BCS. He wants an eight team playoff. I am not so sure that will work either. It would not work because how would you decide who those eight teams are?
The idea I have come up with still involves both the bowls and a playoff system. It would be an 11-team playoff. Why 11 teams? Because that is how many conferences there are in Division IA, otherwise known as the Football Bowl Subdivision. To be one of those eleven teams, you must win your respective conference.
If you don’t win your conference, then to bad. You’re not included. Independent schools will not be eligible either. If you are an independent, all you have to do is join a conference.
Once you have the 11 teams, they will then be ranked by the voters. The playoff will be played using selected bowl games. The bottom two teams would play each other to get in the final ten. At that point, the third seed plays the tenth, and so on with the top two teams earning a bye.
The remaining eight teams will play to reach the final four. These semifinal games will be played in the Sugar and Orange Bowls. The two winners would then meet at the Rose Bowl for the national title. The winner is the number one team in the country.
For all of the other teams that win more than half of their games, they will still get to play in bowl games. Teams must be at least 7-5 to make it to a bowl game. No more 6-6 teams. There are plenty of other bowls to play in.
This is my way to find the best team in college football. This is college football not college politics.
