Chelsea: 5 Reasons They Can Win the Champions League Final

Thomas AtzenhofferJun 7, 2018

Chelsea pulled off one of the greatest upsets in the history of the UEFA Champions League and all of football on Tuesday April 24, 2012.

The Blues managed to beat Barcelona in a thrilling two-legged tie that saw the first leg go to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

However, no one expected them to leave the Nou Camp the victors ever with a one-goal aggregate lead.

Nonetheless the Blues succeeded in what was a magical night for Roberto Di Matteo and his squad, and also the club owner Roman Abramovich.

Here are five reasons why Chelsea can manage to claim the Champions League title this season no matter which one of Real Madrid or Bayern Munich they face.

They Beat Barcelona

1 of 6

No matter how you look at it, beating a club with the level of talent and class of Barcelona means you have what it takes.

Chelsea managed to equalize twice against a team more talented, even while playing away from home in front of 90,000-plus enemy fans, and all of it with only 10 men for the last hour of the match.

If you can do that, you surely can beat either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid 11 vs. 11.

Roberto Di Matteo

There is no doubting the impact that Roberto Di Matteo has brought to the Blues.

Even if he does not win the final, he deserves the chance to take the club into the new campaign after the summer.

However, he is just the man that could inspire the club to victory.

He knows his players, the mentality of the club and most of all, he wants it just as badly and is not afraid to set up the team the way it needs to be in order to win.

John Terry Doesn't Have a Chance to Choke

I hate to say it about John Terry as he is truly pure Chelsea, but he cost his beloved Blues the last time they were in the Champions League final.

His red card against Barcelona means he will not be involved for Chelsea in the club's most important match of the year, and his presence is sure to be missed.

At least everywhere but in a penalty shootout, if it comes to that.

Didier Drogba

4 of 6

Although his partnership with Fernando Torres has yet to truly ever form, the Ivorian veteran is a beast that can bully his way through the toughest of defenses.

Drogba is the man of the hour more times than not for the Blues and if he has anything to do with it, he will make his mark on the match.

Fernando Torres

5 of 6

Fernando Torres did something against Barcelona that he has done best in his past: score the match winner.

You can never forget he was the one that scored Spain's goal in 2008 that won them the UEFA European Championship.

The game winner against Barcelona has to do something for his confidence considering its implications.

If getting to the Champions League final is truly his dream, then expect him to be all over either Bayern or Real Madrid in the final.

If not, then there is nothing left in him.

However, there are few strikers more deadly than El Nino when he is truly on his game.

Conclusion

Chelsea will be riding this high for quite some time, and there is no way they do not have a chance of winning the final after the gritty performance they displayed tonight.
