Barcelona vs Chelsea: John Terry and Blues Will Upset Defending European Champs

Nicholas GossJun 6, 2018

Chelsea captain John Terry will lead his club to the Champions League final in Munich when they defeat Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.

After his penalty-kick miss that doomed the Blues in the 2008 final against Manchester United, Terry has wanted to get back to that level and give the club's fans the prize they want most: the European crown.

Terry's defense did a tremendous job in the first leg at Stamford Bridge by limiting the amount of quality scoring chances that Barcelona had, and they will need to do that again in the second leg.

While "parking the bus" and sitting back on defense is thought of by many as anti-football tactics because it creates a boring game and disrespects the sport, against a team like Barcelona with so much attacking talent, playing this style can be quite effective.

Inter did this in the 2010 Champions League semifinal in the second leg at the Nou Camp and were successful in defeating Barcelona and advancing to the final, and I think the Blues will do the same.

Chelsea has several very strong defenders which include a back four of Ashley Cole, John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Jose Bosingwa.

The Chelsea midfield also boasts some elite defensive players such as Ramires and Michael Essien, who can both defend well and join the attack and score goals.

Chelsea will sit back, defend and counter Barcelona when the opportunity is right. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has the personnel to play this style and be effective.

With a squad full of veteran players willing to do everything needed to earn another shot at European glory, Chelsea will prevail at the Nou Camp and take one step closer to achieving their ultimate goal.

After feeling robbed of a place in the final during the 2009 semifinal against Barcelona, Chelsea will finish the job in Spain and earn a spot in Munich.
