Danny Coale: 5 Biggest Strengths and Weaknesses of 2012 NFL Draft Prospect

David LevinJun 1, 2018

Sometimes being the oldest has its advantages and disadvantages.

When it comes to drafting receivers or anyone in the NFL, being older does not always mean you receive the attention you deserve.

Others like Alshon Jeffery, Justin Blackmon and Kendall Wright might be getting the accolades, but when it is time to be the calm, dependable receiver, quarterbacks can count on Coale.

Danny Coale may not be the best prospect in this week's draft, but at nearly 6'0" and 200 pounds, there is something to be said for experience.

Coale was a major part of the Virginia Tech Hokies passing attack while in Blacksburg, VA.

Here are some strengths and weaknesses in his game, according to sidelinescouting.com.

He Is a Reliable Target

1 of 5

He is a member of the good-hands team.

The good thing about Coale is he knows how to catch a football in traffic or when the first down is needed.

He rarely drops a pass that is thrown his way.

Good Route Runner

2 of 5

He takes the time to follow the football and run the route precisely.

Coale is not exceptionally fast, but when he is running stride for stride with a defender, his weight and size make him hard to keep up with.

The route taken is the route received.

He Gives You Maximum Effort

3 of 5

According to the scouting report, Coale is a "high effort player who fights all the time, a guy who will compete at the highest level."

He is an experienced player who has caught 30 or more balls in each of the past four years.

He Is an Average Athlete

4 of 5

Coale struggles against press coverage and doesn't have good upper-body strength. He only put up 12 reps of 225 at the combine and he can get pushed off his routes.

There will be times he will struggle with coverages. He will also struggle as a run-blocker.

Short Arms

5 of 5

Coale is not blessed with the physical tools teams look for in a receiver. He is simply a possession receiver, not a guy who is going to beat defenders deep and make a lot of plays downfield.

Coale struggles to get vertical separation.
