Trent Richardson: Cleveland Browns Would Be Fools Not to Draft Top RB

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

There are some whispers out there that the Cleveland Browns may not select Alabama running back Trent Richardson with the fourth overall selection in the 2012 NFL draft. Some believe they will go after Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon, or even Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

But those whispers should turn into loud boos if the Browns don't draft Richardson.

Richardson not only fits a need at running back for the Browns, he has all the tools to be a superstar in the NFL. He has great speed, power, agility, burst and big-play ability—he's the complete package. That's why, as good a prospect as Blackmon is, Richardson is a better pick for the Browns.

Richardson stands out from everybody else at running back in this year's draft. At receiver, the Browns could still pick up a game-changer like Baylor's Kendall Wright at No. 22 overall (a pick they landed from the Atlanta Falcons in the 2011 draft).

As for Tannehill, well, I find it ridiculous that he would go at No. 4 overall. I frankly find it ridiculous that the Miami Dolphins could grab him at No. 8 overall.

He's a fringe first-round prospect who doesn't belong in the Top 10.

He has a chance only  because some teams are simply desperate at the position. Plus, it's hard to properly evaluate Colt McCoy in Cleveland when he's had little to work with through the years.

The Browns have had their fair share of struggles throughout their franchise's existence. Failing to draft Richardson will plunge them deeper into mediocrity. You simply don't pass up a player of Richardson's caliber and rise as a franchise.

The Browns should be ecstatic they have a shot at landing Richardson. They frankly shouldn't even be giving it a second thought. You only have to look at Richardson's game tape to know he's the right man at running back to lead them moving forward.
