2012 NFL Draft Predictions: Studs Who Will Plummet on Draft Day

Wes ODonnellJun 4, 2018

There has been no shortage of coverage for the 2012 NFL draft prospects with questionable stock.

Whether on-field or off-field reasons, there are a few players with plenty of red flags dogging their value.

They're not the only ones who could fall down the draft board, but they are easily the most likely. In fact, some of their stocks have already taken major hits, and we know not to expect too much when the clock starts ticking.

Here is a look at big names heading the wrong direction as the draft nears.

Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Adams has all the tools to be a potential starting tackle in the NFL, but he comes with no shortage of off-the-field problems.

In addition to his problems while in Columbus, reports indicate that he failed a drug test at the combine in February.

People have tried to give Adams a number of chances, but these issues seem to crop up too often.

Once considered a top-25 pick, don't be surprised if Adams falls down to the late-second, possibly third round.

Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

The Nebraska star was once considered a top-15 pick, but has seen his stock fall since he missed the early part of the season with an injury.

Dennard slowed things down and regained a bit of a late first-round buzz, but he's fallen off the map again and now has reports of an assault arrest on his resume.

Teams won't look kindly on this, as his stock wasn't soaring before the incident.

He has a ton of talent, but if he can't get on the field he can't do anything with it.

Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis

Poe's not in a free fall, but there is a good chance the once super-high draft stock has resettled somewhere closer to the mid-20s.

The Memphis D-lineman lit up the combine with an impressive physical performance, but it's been a bit of a tumble since that time.

Teams have looked more closely at his game film, and the reasons he wasn't a guaranteed first-round pick going into the draft process have since resurfaced.

No. 24 overall to Steelers makes the most sense right now, but he could slip beyond them as well.

Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State

Burfict's star fell long ago, but there is no telling that the Arizona State star even hears his name called. The negatives around his game have caused quite a stir, and his attitude doesn't help matters any.

It legitimately wouldn't be a surprise if Burfict fell extremely far down the draft board.
