2012 NFL Draft 1st-Round Odds: Cincinnati Bengals at Number 21

Sigmund BloomApr 24, 2012

What good luck for the Bengals to have two picks between 17 and 21 when that is one of the places with the most value in the first round. By the time they use their 17th pick, we will be able to likely cross a name off of this list because that player is probably on it. Who will they use their second first-rounder on?

15 percent—Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia—If the Bengals don't land David DeCastro at 17, Glenn will be a top consideration at 21. The Bills, Cardinals, Chargers or Bears could take him before they get a chance, but he's at least 50/50 to be there.

15 percent—Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor—The Bengals need a speedy No. 2 receiver opposite AJ Green, and Wright will be there unless the Bears take him at No. 19.

10 percent—Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama—My gut tells me that Kirkpatrick goes earlier—perhaps to Cincinnati at 17—but he'll be at or near the top of their board if he's still there at 21.

10 percent—Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama—Again, a strong consideration at 17, a layup pick at 21.

10 percent—Mark Barron, SS, Alabama—One more time—not very likely to be there at 21, but if he is there, likely a top player on the Bengals board.

10 percent—Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois—Mercilus could easily go off the board at any of the three picks preceding 21, but if he doesn't, he might be the favorite to get chosen at the pick.

10 percent—Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College—Kuechly would be a strong consideration at 17, although they could pass on him for a best player available at another position. Passing on him twice seems unlikely.

5 percent—Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis—Poe's buzz has cooled, so chances are he's not the Bengals' best player available at 17. His potential might be too good to pass up at 21.

5 percent—Michael Brockers, DT, LSU—Brockers is probably higher on most boards than Poe, which means he's an easier pick for the Bengals if he's there at 21, but less likely to be there.

2.5 percent—Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame—The theme is clear, the Bengals will wait to see who slides as a best player available to fill one of their many positions of moderate need. Floyd would probably be a strong consideration at 17, and the Bears would have a lot of trouble passing on him at 19, but it's not impossible that he's there at 21.

2.5 percent—Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama—The Bengals' willingness to take character risk players is well-known and no one would argue with this pick based on Jenkins's 2010 tape at Florida. If Stephon Gilmore and Kirkpatrick go top 15, this becomes more likely.

2.5 percent—Doug Martin, RB, Boise State—The Bengals like Martin and they rarely make trades, so if they see him as a long-term, every-down starter, they could pull the trigger here.

2.5 percent—Nick Perry, DE, USC—If the Bengals are dead set on getting a pass-rusher with top-end potential at 21, Perry might be the best choice left.
