College Football Recruiting 2013: Michigan or Florida State for E.J. Levenberry?

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

E.J. Levenberry is a top-notch, 4-star LB prospect from Virginia with a slew of offers. However, Levenberry has narrowed his options down to two schools, and these two programs are mega powerhouses.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan and Florida State are in the middle of a big-time recruiting battle for Levenberry, and he will be making his decision tomorrow.

For this read, let's just go into the battle of both schools, weigh the pros and cons, and make a prediction.

Michigan

1 of 7

The Wolverines have gotten off to a dominating start to 2013 recruiting, and Levenberry is one their top targets.

With pledges from QB Shane Morris, OG Patrick Kugler, DB Dymonte Thomas and LB Michael McCray, you can see Brady Hoke is trying to top his elite 2012 class.

Michigan has the early No. 1 class, and it doesn't seem interested in giving up that spot right now.

Florida State

The 'Noles are back to their old recruiting ways under Jimbo Fisher, which equates to going after and signing as many top-tier prospects as possible.

Last year FSU signed an elite top-five class, and this year, the Noles have given a solid effort so far. However, landing a player like Levenberry would give them a boost that would help a 2013 surge in Tallahassee.

Florida State is always a major player for prospects.

Why Michigan?

On the field and scheme-wise, Levenberry likes the way defensive coordinator Greg Mattison has told him he'll be used in Ann Arbor.

In fact, Levenberry's father told Scout.com (subscription needed) he wants Mattison to use E.J. the same way he used Terrell Suggs of the Ravens.

Off the field, ESPN reports (subscription needed) Levenberry's mother likes the advantages of a degree from Michigan because of how it will help get a job after football.

Why Florida State?

Levenberry has followed the recruiting scene, as he knows the caliber of front seven talent FSU has signed recently. Per ESPN, his father states that it's a huge draw to know that E.J. would be playing with a great front, allowing him to make plays.

Josh Newberg of 247Sports.com stated via Twitter that the 'Noles are making a hard push for Levenberry. He will receive a visit from them today, and make his decision tomorrow.

Why Not Michigan?

Folks, the Wolverines signed four top-tier LB prospects in 2012. Those four guys—Joe Bolden, Royce Jenkins-Stone, Kaleb Ringer and James Ross—are not slouches.

Add the talented Michael McCray to this class, that's five LBs that Levenberry would be competing against in Ann Arbor.

Wowsers.

Why Not Florida State?

I honestly can't find too much reason why Levenberry shouldn't select Florida State. The Seminoles signed Markus Eligwe and Sean Maguire last year, but that doesn't sync up with the LB class Michigan hauled in.

There's not too many minuses with Florida State and Levenberry. He's talented enough to get on the field as a freshman or sophomore and contribute.

Prediction

This is extremely tough to call; it really is. I can see Levenberry committing to either school and being solid there.

However, I'll continue my prediction of Michigan. I just think the Wolverines have led for Levenberry in his heart for quite sometime and they'll win out.

But we'll officially find out tomorrow.
