Madden 2013 Cover: Cam Newton's Style of Play a Perfect Fit for Cover

Eric BallJun 4, 2018

The cover of Madden ’13 is a very prestigious honor.

Considering the millions of copies that are sold on a yearly basis, you are the face that kids and adults alike stare at when popping in the disc. You are the one that essentially represents the entire league.

Not all players are cutout to be Madden cover boys.

With his lack of speed and overall standard (boring?) style of play, a QB like Ben Roethlisberger is not going to cut it. What the cover needs is an explosive player that dictates the entire offense by helping the unit in multiple different aspects.

The Madden cover needs a guy with the speed of a running back and an absolute rocket for an arm. Oh, and better make him a rising star that’s going to be around for a long time.

Sound like anybody you know?

Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers is the best fit for a cover since Michael Vick back in 2004. Remember how dominate Vick was both on the field and in the game back then?

Newton’s rating is going to be off the charts. I’d guess his speed and acceleration are both going to be in the 90s, as will his arm strength.

Let’s be honest, in Madden it’s all about scrambling around in the pocket in search for the long-bomb connection with the receiver streaking down the field.

Newton’s competition for the cover is Calvin Johnson, and while Megatron certainly has the gaudy numbers to serve the honor, he doesn’t play as big of a role in the offense. Sure, you can throw to Johnson on every play if you want, but if you are trying to be realistic with it, Johnson will only be involved in 10-to-15 plays per game.

Newton touches the ball on every single snap and aside from handing the ball off to his running back is involved heavily in virtually every play.

He has the swag, attributes and style of play that Madden loves. He deserves the cover of Madden over Megatron in what will likely be the closest race in cover history.

Vote for Cam.
