UFC 146: Cain Velasquez Set to Take on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva Next Month

John HeinisJun 7, 2018

The all-heavyweight main card of UFC 146 has seen its second big shakeup from this weekend.

After UFC President Dana White announced that Frank Mir would be filling in for Alistair Overeem to challenge Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 Friday night, White has now tweeted another blockbuster announcement for the same event:

"

Don't believe any of the BS you read on the internet. Cain is fighting Bigfoot Silva May 26th in Vegas

Originally, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva was going to make his UFC debut against Roy Nelson and Cain Velasquez was going to fight Mir in a title eliminator bout.

However, the UFC's decision to remove Overeem for failing a random drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission earlier this month has led to some necessary changes for the May 26 event.

Both Silva and Velasquez enter the bout coming off of losses.

Silva was defeated in the semifinals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix by Daniel Cormier in September, while Velasquez lost the UFC Heavyweight title to Dos Santos at the inaugural UFC on FOX event in November.

Interestingly, Silva was rumored to be coming to the UFC to fight Velasquez back in January, but the fight never came to fruition.

No immediate word was made on whether or not Nelson would remain on the card, though UFC 145 "Submission of the Night" winner Travis Browne told MMA Fighting he would be ready to go at UFC 146 if his number was called on.
