Frenz of the Family: Must-Reads Around the AFC East, April 23 Edition

Erik FrenzJun 7, 2018

New England Patriots

Khaled Elsayed of Pro Football Focus wrapped up his draft grader series, and one of the last teams up was the Patriots. They have a lot of hits, almost as many misses, and the respect of Khaled for their draft strategy.

Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe writes that the Patriots need to look no further than the second and third rounds for where to improve. Side note: Of the 14 draft picks in those two rounds since '08, only four have developed into starters.

Speaking of the second and third round, Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post writes that the Dolphins have also struggled in those rounds, and with a few picks this year, they could realistically right the wrongs of drafts past.

B/R Dolphins featured columnist Alex Miglio gives us a full seven-round dream mock draft for the Dolphins, revamping the offense in the second round and the defense in the first and third rounds.

And what would the pre-draft process be without conflicting reports? The first report came from Pro Football Talk, citing a league source that said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was pushing for Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the No. 8 pick.

Another report came later from Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald, citing "a very, very, very highly placed source within the Dolphins organization" as saying that the Dolphins owner isn't pushing for anyone. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

There are always so many prospects connected to each team that it can be tough to connect the dots. ESPN's AFC East blogger James Walker gives us three possible Jets first-round picks, with what seems like (but is not advertised as) a best-case, worst-case and most likely case scenario.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York writes that the Jets could be in the market to trade up for Alabama running back Trent Richardson, but that there are enough options to go around. He also has a first-half-round mock draft in which he projects South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram to the Jets with the 16th overall pick.

Joe Pinzone from Buffalo Wins, a Bills fan blog, has an in-depth look at the draft history of the Bills and their success relative to each position, coming away with some big picture conclusions along the way.

One thing's for sure, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com: The team will not be cornered into a pick based on their needs. He did, however, admit that the team has needs, specifically at offensive tackle.

AFC East

John McTigue of ESPN's Stat's & Info blog gives us the lowdown on the AFC East needs, with each team needing a pass rusher.
