UFC 145 Results: Eddie Yagin Proves Bright Future with Defeat of Mark Hominick

Timothy RappJun 2, 2018

It was the Fight of the Night, stealing the thunder from more anticipated bouts. More importantly, it may have been the launching point for a potential star.

Eddie Yagin didn't just defeat Mark Hominick in a bloody, three-round slugfest. He proved he was a fighter on the rise, one we should all be paying attention to moving forward.

In only his second UFC fight, Yagin defeated Hominick, a once-decorated fighter who has lost three straight fights, the first of which prevented him from prying the UFC Featherweight title from Jose Aldo. Sure, Hominick is a fighter whose career is quickly regressing, but that doesn't mean he isn't a tough, gritty warrior or that Yagin's defeat of him was anything less than impressive.

Yagin is the type of fighter that is so fun to watch in the octagon—an upright brawler who uses excellent speed to barrage his opponents. Sure, against an opponent adept at taking the fight to the ground—or one at least willing to try—he'd be in trouble, at least in this stage of his career. But hey, he's only had two fights in the UFC, so he has time to develop.

If nothing else, Yagin will be a fun fighter to keep an eye on in the future. I have a feeling he'll be brawling his way to quite a few wins over the course of his career.

And entertaining us along the way.
