UFC 145 Results: Michael McDonald on His Way to a UFC Title
Jon Jones and Rory MacDonald were not the only young fighters who made statements at UFC 145.
Last night, Michael McDonald continued to prove just how dangerous he is by knocking out former WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres.
McDonald is just the second person to ever knock out Torres.
The win is McDonald's eighth straight, 15th overall. It was also his ninth win by knockout.
McDonald has also shown that he can pull off submissions and go the full distance of a fight.
What's really scary about McDonald is he just turned 21 in January.
The win against Torres was the biggest win of McDonald's career. Before Torres, the highest profile opponent McDonald had faced was former WEC featherweight champion Cole Escovedo.
Although McDonald said he was ready for a title fight, let's not be so quick to throw his name in the mix of title contenders.
Yes, McDonald is 15-1 and has shown great power. But he may not be ready for the Dominick Cruzes and Urijah Fabers of the world just yet.
McDonald is well on his way to the top. But he needs to get a few more big-name fights under his belt before he gets a title shot.
The win against Torres proved that McDonald is ready for tougher challenges in the bantamweight division.
If McDonald can continue to improve, he will be a UFC champion one day.
