UFC 145 Results: Chris Clements Will Climb Welterweight Ranks After Big Win

Chris Clements has just begun to make his mark on the UFC. His split decision win over Keith Wisniewski is just the beginning. 

Clements won 29-28, 28-29, 30-27 after a hard fought victory that showed both fighters display remarkable resiliency. 

Clements was taken down several times in this bout. He even suffered a facial cut in the first round, but he never let it alter his mindset or approach. 

In the end, he delivered more blows than he received, and he has his superb standing attack to thank for that. He landed good punches and a couple kicks, and this is going to serve him well going forward.

Clements needs more mat work if he wants to be elite, but there is no reason to think this athletic fighter won't make significant gains in that area. 

While he improves that part of his game, his standup fighting will carry him. He will also get a little help putting this on display. 

Clements style of fighting is the exact kind of style that appeals to a wide fan base. This will not be lost on UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. 

He is going to pit Clements against other fighters who specialize in the standup—think Matt Riddle or Lance Benoist.

That will ensure a high-action fight, which will thrill fans. It will also give Clements the kind of opponents he can dominate.
