UFC 145 Results: Loss Ruins Mark Hominick's Bid for Rematch with Jose Aldo

Austin GreenJun 6, 2018

With his controversial split decision loss at UFC 145, Mark Hominick's hopes for a title rematch against Jose Aldo have been dashed.

Despite landing more strikes than his opponent Eddie Yagin, Hominick lost 29-28, 28-29, 29-28. Now, Hominick has lost three fights in a row, dropping his professional record to 20-11 (1-3 UFC).

In a matchup between two of the best featherweights on the planet, we all figured this was going to be a slugfest. The fight didn't disappoint, as both men were lumbering around in a bloody daze by the end of the bout. Both were also sporting some golf ball-sized welts when the decision was announced.

While it was an incredibly close fight, the more significant strikes were clearly landed by Yagin. He dropped Hominick in the first round with a vicious right uppercut, then floored him again with a right hook in the second.

Hominick responded well to the big hits, using his superior conditioning to wear down Yagin. He continuously landed solid strikes, and while none were as big as Yagin's power hits, they were enough to do some serious damage.

Heading into the third round, Yagin's nose looked completely shattered. But unfortunately for Hominick, the Filipino Phenom would not be denied.

Now, Hominick finds himself in an unenviable position. He's clearly better than the vast majority of featherweight fighters, but with three straight losses, he could have trouble finding another marquee fight in the coming months.

At just 29 years old, he could certainly earn another title shot before his career is over. Just don't expect it to come anytime soon.
