Theo Walcott: Arsenal Striker Ruled out for Rest of Gunners' Season

Christopher HallApr 21, 2012

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is unlikely to play again this season for the Gunners after picking up a hamstring injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

Walcott went down clutching his leg in the 56th minute. The injury was assessed, and he tried to continue but pulled up again just minutes later.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger called the injury "serious" in his postgame press conference and said the 23-year-old's season is almost certainly finished.

"I think now for him it will be tough to come back before the end of the season," Wenger said. "It is usually 21 days...I don't think he will be ready to play for us [anymore this season]."

Walcott scored 11 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal this term.

The final three games of their season will see the Walcott-less Gunners face Stoke, Norwich and West Brom as they try to hold off a hard-charging Newcastle United side for third place in the Premier League table.

Having played one more match than Alan Pardew's side, Arsenal currently sit just three points clear of the Toon.

If Wenger's timetable proves accurate, the injury will not impact Walcott's availability for the start of England's Euro 2012 campaign, which kicks off against France on June 11th.

England is drawn into Group D along with Ukraine, France and Sweden.
