Washington Wizards: Are Butler And Jamison Tired of Shouldering The Load?

brandon LamJan 25, 2009

This season Caron Butler and Antwan Jamison have had a nightmare season. The two have fought hard in every game, but the outcome has always been the same, a loss.

Butler and Jamison have been carrying the load for the Wizards the entire season, playing heavy minutes each night, and now it looks to of caught up with them, as they look worn down. Problem is, it's only the first half of the NBA season.

In years past when the Wizards played well with Butler and Jamison, it wasn't just them. They had help from guys like Brendan Haywood, Deshawn Stevenson, and Roger Mason. But, Haywood who had his best season last year, tore a ligament in his wrist in training camp, and will be forced to miss the whole season. Stevenson who also had a career year, has been limited this season due to a bad back. Mason, who was a really big part of the Wizards success last season was lost in free-agency to the Spurs.

When it was told that Gilbert Arenas was going to miss considerable time this season again. It was inferred that Butler and Jamison would have to shoulder the load all over again. But that's two much pressure on two guys and they have showed it this season.

Coach Eddie Tapscott seems to be showing that he does not know what he is doing. The last month Caron Butler's numbers went down and people were saying ''Butler is not playing to the best of his abilities, Butler is already throwing in the towel." But that is false!

The real reason is that Butler has been moved to the shooting guard position by Tapscott, who thought it was good for him, because it was a chance to post up against smaller guards and get easy baskets.

But, Butler numbers are down in every category, as he has been taking bad shots, failing to guard players on the perimeter, but this is because he is just not a guard.

Butler has two All Star appearances as a small forward, that's what Butler is, a small forward. He rebounds the ball well, scores the ball well, and just a full package on the basketball court.

Its kind of unfortunate for these guys because they are veterans, leaders, and fighters. The guy they need to lead them is on the bench cracking jokes, Gilbert Arenas have left these guys by themselves on the court and they are doing as much as they can, yet they are coming up short.

Help is on the way hopefully, if the Wizards are able to get Arenas and Haywood back to 100 percent, add in a decent draft pick, and a coach. They could be much better coming into the 2009-2010 season.
