What They're Saying
Marc Berman of the New York Post noted just how porous New York looked with Amar'e Stoudemire in the lineup.
""Playing blocks from the famed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Amar’e Stoudemire stopped the good music wafting over the Knicks. The only thing that looked fresh about Stoudemire Friday night was his cornrows," said Berman in his article.
"
He went on to mention how the Knicks didn't seem thrilled to see their All-Star on the floor.
""Stoudemire’s teammates seemed unexcited to see him on the court and interim coach Mike Woodson ripped the team afterward, saying they “didn’t compete and that’s unacceptable’’ and felt they were complacent after clinching a playoff berth the night before."
"
Most Important Player to Watch for Knicks: Amar'e Stoudemire
The aforementioned Stoudemire is the player to watch for New York.
How will he and Carmelo Anthony share the basketball? Do they coexist well enough to be a formidable tandem in the relative future?
Does Stoudemire's presence make New York a team that can play with the best in the Eastern Conference?
All are questions you would expect to be answered at this point but these two really haven't been on the floor together in the past year. Both have been injured at different points.
We don't know for sure, although most may have a hunch.
Most Important Player to Watch for Hawks: Jeff Teague
With no true point guard for New York, Jeff Teague should be able to have a successful day in front of the home folks.
Quietly, Teague has turned into a formidable point guard in the NBA. He's averaging 12.2 points, 4.9 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game.
His energy energizes the crowd, and vice versa. He'll use that energy to put on a fantastic performance.
Key Matchup: Anthony and Stoudemire vs. Hawks defense
Atlanta possesses the fifth-best defense in terms of points allowed. Anthony has played unbelievable since the injury to Lin, and Stoudemire is capable of filling it up.
How will they mesh against a good defense?
That's the matchup to watch.
Prediction: Atlanta 98, New York 96
Atlanta's defense makes a huge stop late to win the game.
