UFC 146: Dana White Confirms Junior dos Santos vs. Frank Mir for the Title
After weeks of speculation as to who would take Alistair Overeem's place against Junior dos Santos, it appears Dana White has finally found a Plan B. He took to Twitter tonight to break the news.
"Taking off to Atlanta!!! May 26 th is now Mir vs JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at MGM Grand. (@DanaWhite)
"
Following the failed drug test of Overeem, the UFC was put in a precarious situation with many of its heavyweight contenders already having a bout in place for the same show or on a show close to the event. White has been vocal about being upset and has expressed his concern about not having a "Plan B."

The idea that made the most sense was replacing Overeem with Frank Mir as the jiu-jitsu ace is on an impressive winning streak that was capped off by snapping Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's arm.
White had stated before that Mir would in fact battle his original opponent, Cain Velasquez, which opened the door for the Rally-for-Mark-Hunt movement. Despite a strong fan backing, Hunt didn't deserve a title shot over either Mir or even Velasquez.
The fight against dos Santos will likely require a totally different game plan for Mir. Dos Santos isn't a Division-I wrestler, and relies on some of the best boxing in all of MMA. The jiu-jitsu specialist will likely look to take the fight to the mat, where he will have a sizable advantage.
A change in the game plan for dos Santos is in order as well. Overeem is one of the most established strikers in the sport, and while Mir's striking has improved, it's no where close to the level that dos Santos has been preparing for.
A Mir-JDS title match is the one that makes the most sense, and it's good to finally see White come around to making this deal happen.
No word yet on a possible opponent for Velasquez or if he will be moved to another card.
