Arsenal vs. Chelsea: Fernando Torres and Players Who Must Shine for Blues

Nicholas GossApr 20, 2012

Chelsea will travel to the Emirates this weekend facing a must-win match against Arsenal in the Blues' quest to qualify for the Champions League next season.

With Didier Drogba out of the lineup for the clash with Arsenal because of an injury, Chelsea will be without one of their best players.

Drogba's goal record versus the Gunners is outstanding, so the rest of the Blues attack will have to play very well for the club to take all three points.

Let's look at three Chelsea players who must shine this weekend.

Fernando Torres

Torres has not lived up to his talent or large transfer fee as a Chelsea player, but he can certainly win over a lot of frustrated fans this weekend with a strong performance against the Gunners.

Torres will certainly factor into the match somehow with Drogba set to miss due to an injury. Torres has just three goals in Premier League play this season and has not looked comfortable for most of the year.

With his ability to finish in front of goal and cause defenders problems with his effective runs in the attacking third, Torres has to shine for Chelsea against Arsenal and lead the attack.

Juan Mata

Juan Mata has arguably been Chelsea's player of the season, and he does so many wonderful things for the Blues' attack.

He is a fantastic playmaker with his tremendous passing abilities, and he can also score goals because his dribbling skills put defenders on their heels.

Mata will be important against Arsenal because he's a very clever player who can pick out a pass and set up a forward such as Torres with a quality scoring chance.

John Terry

The Chelsea captain will need to keep the Blues' back four structured and on the same page throughout the match because Arsenal has a lot of attacking players with speed and skill.

Terry must prevent Arsenal star striker Robin Van Persie from dominating in the final third and give the Gunners' supporters a reason to cheer early in the match.

As the leader and rock of the Chelsea defense, Terry must set the tone from the opening whistle. If he can be a force on set pieces such as corner kicks and also defend well, the Blues will take three points from this match.
