NFL Draft 2012: New England Patriots and Teams Most Likely to Trade Down

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

The New England Patriots have two first-round picks this year. They could draft that impact pass-rusher they need, but we all know the Patriots. They won't.

The Patriots are one of a few teams heading into the 2012 NFL draft that are likely to trade down.

Here are the teams I see trading down this year.

I currently have the Patriots drafting Wisconsin center Peter Konz and Clemson defensive end Andre Branch late in the first round, but that's only if they decide to keep those picks.

It seems every year that the Patriots find ways to collect as many draft picks as possible, and that includes trading their first-round picks.

Branch isn't an elite prospect and, although Konz would be a nice addition, the Patriots will likely look for value beyond the first round.

The Seahawks could land a pass-rusher like Quinton Coples, who may be available at No. 12 overall, but his character concerns make him risky. There are plenty of impressive pass-rushers in this year's draft. I expect the Seahawks to trade down, grab some extra picks and select a pass-rusher later in the first round.

At No. 13 overall, the Cardinals are in a tough spot. They could grab someone like Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd to pair up with Larry Fitzgerald, but why not trade down and grab Kendall Wright of Baylor? Wright has the speed and athleticism to be an impact player in the NFL.
