Jermain Taylor vs. Caleb Truax: Former Champ Will Continue Comeback with Win
The boxing bug bit Jermain Taylor enough for him to come out of retirement and give his career another shot, and his latest bout will prove he's ready to take on marquee boxers.
There's nothing flashy about Friday Night's Fight on Showtime featuring Taylor and Caleb Truax. The call of the day is to get another solid result in the bag as Taylor continues on his comeback trail.
There's a lot to like about Truax, but there's no way he gets over on a poised veteran who's hungry for a much bigger foe.
Taylor comes in with the title of former undisputed middleweight champion and the battle scars that come with such a thing.
He knows what it means to suffer the pangs of defeat and is willing to do everything in his power to make this comeback count before he walks into the sunset for good.
His fine career was cut short with a knockout from Arthur Abraham in 2009, enough to make him walk away from the sport and into retirement.
The respite was enough for him to miss boxing greatly, and his handling of Jessie Nicklow was enough of a taste for him to step further back into classic form, via Sun-Herald.
"It was the best two years of my life. I’ve come back and I feel strong. I’m back in love with boxing. I’m on my way back.
"
The love affair continues with a bout against Truax who will be tested against an extremely experienced boxer on Friday night.
Truax has battled a beatable list of no names and middling boxers that hardly crack the list of notable stars, most being regional fighters from the Minnesota area.
The issues for me comes with Truax's struggles with Duluth's Andy Kolle back in 2011. He started off slowly and will not be able to have the same initial form against a formidable opponent like Taylor.
This is a big step up for the fighter who does have power to make it interesting but hardly has the experience to match wits with Taylor.
This will be another win for the former champ, and one that will put him well on the trail for much bigger fights.
