Anderson out for the Rest of Manchester United's Season

Christopher HallApr 20, 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson told reporters in a press conference this morning that Manchester United midfielder Anderson is likely finished for the season.

"I don't think Anderson will play again this season," Ferguson said. "There are only four games left and it will be difficult for him."

The Brazilian has not been in the squad since aggravating a hamstring injury when he came on as a second-half substitute in United's 3-2 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their round of 16 Europa League tie last month.

Anderson began his career in the youth ranks of Brazilian club side Gremio, his debut in the first team coming at just 16 years of age.

He moved to Europe after signing with Porto, but joined Manchester United after just 18 months. Since the 2007 move, the hard-working midfielder has made 145 appearances for Ferguson's team.

But this season, the 24-year-old has managed just 10 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.

With four games remaining, Manchester United enjoy a five-point lead over local rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

But they still have to go into the Etihad to face Roberto Mancini's men in what could prove a decisive Manchester derby on Monday, April 30.
