Oregon Ducks Spring Game Under a Week Away: 5 Things That'd Be Terrifying to See

Joe PenkalaApr 22, 2012

For Oregon Duck fans, this is like the week leading up to Christmas. You have an idea of what some of the awesome gifts you may see are but you are waiting to see what the big surprise is that is awaiting you.

With the spring game now less than a week away, Duck fans are excited to see some of their returning stars while also get a glimpse of the future at the same time.

While the spring game can bring many positives, here are five things that would terrify Oregon fans if they witnessed it on Saturday.

Cliff Harris Lighting Up in the Crowd

1 of 5

Okay, this may sound a bit sarcastically but after the press that the Ducks have received for supposed marijuana use, the worst possible thing may be seeing Cliff Harris at the game and having him firing up a joint during the spring game.

While the backlash from the story has not been that bad, the Ducks want to see this story go away quickly.

No Wide Receiver Development

Since Jeff Maehl graduated in 2010, the Ducks have shown how thin they have been at wide receiver. While De'Anthony Thomas has stepped up out of the slot, the Ducks lack a true go-to guy that can be relied on to make big plays.

With Josh Huff coming back healthy, the Ducks hope that he can step up while other young receivers develop into stars as well.

Kicking Game Not Developing

Last year the kicking game, specifically the field-goal game, was a complete mess for the Ducks. While it didn't cost them early on in the year, a missed field goal against USC may have cost them a repeat trip to the BCS National Championship.

Regardless of who it is, the Duck fans hope to see a vast improvement and feel a sense of confidence as they head towards the fall.

De'Anthony Thomas Getting Injured

4 of 5

De'Anthony Thomas is a linchpin in the Oregon offense. A healthy Thomas allows the Ducks to be deeper at both the receiver and running back positions.

During the spring game, Duck fans will be happy to see him make a few plays and then head out of the game because the loss of Thomas for an significant time could turn this season on its head.

Quarterback Battle Decided by Injury

5 of 5

Along with De'Anthony Thomas, the other injury that would be disastrous is that if the quarterback battle is solved via an injury.

What every Duck fan should be hoping for is that these two players push each other to be better and eventually the best man wins. The script that would be terrifying to see play out is if the battle was decided by an injury, taking the choice out of Chip Kelly's hands.
