UFC 145: Jon Jones Will Make Easy Work of Rashad Evans to Defend Title

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Jon Jones' amazing rise will continue at UFC 145 when he defends his Light Heavyweight Championship with a victory over Rashad Evans. Jones simply has too many different weapons for the challenger to defend.

Jones has a career record of 15-1, with the only loss coming via disqualification. So, nobody has truly been able to figure out how to beat him yet. His rare combination of length, speed and underrated power make him a nightmare opponent.

His victories over Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida were perfect examples of his dynamic ability. Those are two of the biggest names in the sport, but even they seemed perplexed at how complete of a fighter Jones has become in such a short time.

Evans is a veteran fighter with plenty of experience, but he doesn't possess the quickness necessary to keep up with Jones. He relies on his defensive ability to earn a lot of victories by decision, but Jones hasn't been forced to go the distance in more than three years.

In order to beat Jones, it's going to take somebody who can not only defend, but will also force the champion to defend as well. Jones' amount of time on the attack needs to be limited. Evans doesn't have enough ability to make that happen, however.

It's not a referendum on Evans' skills, but rather a testament to Jones' overall skill level, which is higher than nearly every other UFC star right now. He doesn't only win, but he make it look easy most of the time against truly tough opponents.

While Evans should be able to hang around for awhile based purely on his defense and ability to absorb some shots, Jones will eventually wear him down enough to knock him out. It would be Jones' seventh straight victory and third successful defense of the belt.

And I don't see his reign ending anytime soon.
