NFL Draft Rumors: Benefits of Colts Already Informing Andrew Luck He's Top Pick

Andrew Luck will be a member of the Indianapolis Colts on April 26. This news stems from a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter, who cited an NFL source Thursday morning.

Stunned, right? 

Nothing is ever set in stone, but now that this formality has officially been tweeted by ESPN's most connected NFL insider, it's time to analyze the benefits the Colts gained by informing Luck he'll be the top pick. 

Luck and Indianapolis' front office can technically begin negotiating the parameters of his rookie contract.

Why is that important? 

Well, if the Stanford icon comes to an agreement with the Colts and signs a deal, he can presumably get a playbook in his hands prior to officially becoming the No. 1 pick. 

Now, we're only talking a few days here, but nonetheless, it gives Luck more time to scour the Colts' offensive game plan fundamentals, something that's vital for a rookie signal-caller. The more time with the playbook, the better.

Indianapolis can finally exit the overwhelming spotlight it's been in since its forgettable 2-14 2011 season. The Colts have been through a lot over the last few months.

First was the organization overhaul, then the Peyton Manning saga, which was followed by an abundance of speculation regarding what the team would do with its first pick. 

It'll be good for Andrew as well. 

He'll head to NYC without any unnecessary pressure on him, knowing he'll be the first selection. The true transition can begin from collegiate legend dubbed a "generational prospect" by some respected draft analysts to the new leader of the Indianapolis Colts.

Although he probably had an inkling he'd be the first pick all along, the meticulous pre-draft process is over.

He can finally take the reins of his NFL team.

An ideal situation for Mr. Luck and the Colts.
